 The Next Generation Ship Operation Technology Development Center (hereinafter referred to as the Next Generation Ship Center) conducts research on the verification and improvement of new technologies for next generation ships, research on the formation of technologies and rules for safe operation, and research on methods for training personnel to operate next generation ships, with the aim of contributing to the formulation of international rules for next generation ship operation and human resource development. The Next Generation Ship Center is comprised of the Autonomous Ship Group, Alternative Fuel Ship Group, and ShipDXWe have organized three research groups, including the Autonomous Ship Research Group, and are working on a wide range of research fields related to next-generation ships.DXThe Digitalization Group has implemented a remote monitoring system on the university's training ship, the Shioji Maru, and is building a digital twin system for the Shioji Maru, conducting research and development into operational technology for next-generation ships.DXIn the group, faculty members to be hired include those researching cybersecurity for next-generation ships, those researching digital twin systems for next-generation ships, and those researching next-generation ship simulators.VRYou will be expected to conduct one of the related research projects.

 You will be responsible for teaching courses related to next-generation ships in the Master's Program in Maritime Logistics at the Graduate School of Marine Science and Technology.

(Undergraduate)
 At the undergraduate level, you will be responsible for teaching specialized subjects in information processing.

Treatment etc.

  • Salary and allowance: Annual salary system.Allowance is paid when the prescribed requirements are met.
  • Insurance, etc.: Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Mutual Aid Association (health insurance, welfare pension), employment insurance, industrial accident insurance
  • Working hours: Discretionary labor system applied (deemed working hours: 1 hours 7 minutes a day, 45 hours 38 minutes a week)
  • Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, year-end and New Year holidays, and other days designated by the president
  • Trial period: 6 month

Entry conditions

The following 1, 2, and 3 must be met. It is preferable that 4 be met.

  1. Hold a doctoral degree.
  2. Must have specialized knowledge in either the cybersecurity, digital twin systems, or virtual reality fields.
  3. The student must be willing to utilize the specialized knowledge gained from the degree in research in the field of maritime affairs.
  4. The candidate must have research achievements equivalent to the qualifications for assistant research supervisor in the master's program at graduate school. (Approximately five peer-reviewed academic papers are recommended.)

  2. List of research achievements (A4 size, free format)
    Separate the categories as "Academic books," "Peer-reviewed academic papers," and "Other," and list the author's name (all authors in the order listed in their books, papers, etc.), paper title, publisher or collection name, volume number, issue number, pages, and publication date.
    *Only works that have been published at the time of application are eligible. Academic papers that have completed review and have a certificate of acceptance may be included.
    *"Peered academic papers" includes full-paper peer-reviewed proceedings. If you are unsure about the criteria, please contact us.
  3. Reprints or copies of original papers (up to 5 representative papers)
    *For the final selection process, you will be asked to submit all academic papers.
  4. Summary of research to date (A4 size, approximately 1500 characters)
  5. Your aspirations for research in the field of maritime affairs after assuming your post (A4 size, approximately 1500 characters)
  6. Name, affiliation, contact information, and relationship to the applicant of one person whose opinion will be helpful in the recruitment process

Selection details

The first selection process will involve a document review.

The second round of selection will involve an interview, including a presentation on the research content.

*If interviews or other procedures are conducted during the selection process, travel expenses etc. will be borne by the candidate.

Notification of selection results

The results of the first selection (document screening) will be announced by the end of December 2025.

The results of the second selection process (interviews, etc.) will be announced by the end of January 2026.
